About This Class
Have you ever come across beautifully ornate silverware and thought, ‘I’d love to transform this into a cherished ring’? Well, in our upcoming workshop, you’ll do just that. Learn the art of polishing and shaping vintage sterling silver plateware into a ring that holds timeless beauty. Throughout this workshop, you’ll gain insights into the various types of metals used in plateware, identifying those best suited for crafting jewelry. Discover the techniques to polish and mold it to the perfect size, and finally, add a patina to achieve a desired darker or rainbow- like finish.
Silver plateware rings, often known as spoon rings, carry an intriguing mythology. Legend has it that spoon rings trace back to 17th century England with a romantic twist. Allegedly, servants in manor houses would repurpose stolen sterling silverware into bands as they couldn’t afford traditional wedding bands. There’s even a tale of Robin Hood gifting Maid Marian a ring crafted from a stolen spoon – a story that aligns with his reputation for taking from the rich to give to the poor, making it both believable and utterly romantic.
So, whether you’re inspired by the folklore of the spoon ring or possess silver plateware you’ve longed to transform into jewelry, this workshop is a perfect fit. Embrace the sustainability of the process and bring your silverware to life in the form of a beautifully crafted ring.
