About This Class

Have an idea for a TIG welding project but want guidance and help along the way?  Creating solid weld joints in multiple positions is the foundation for all metal projects. This course is designed for students to increase their knowledge of TIG welding and joint construction.

Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, also known as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), is a precise welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to join metals. The process also uses an inert gas, typically argon, to protect the weld area from atmospheric contamination and oxidation. TIG welding is known for its versatility and control, and can be used to join a variety of metals, including steel, stainless and gauge copper.  TIG is also used with Aluminum but that will not be an option in this class.

TIG welding gives the operator more control over the gun than other welding techniques, which can help achieve high-quality, precise and clean welds.

In this 4 week course, our welding instructor will help you design your project, determine materials list, help you order materials, then assist as you fabricate using all the tools and supplies in our metal shop.

Three sessions (6 hours total) of shop time is required between classes on Sunday from 10am-12pm or 12pm-2pm (you will choose which session during registration). This is the only time reserved for the TIG Welding 102 students. If you cannot attend on Sunday or need to book additional hours, you ​w​ill need to book time via our ​general shop calendar at www.diycave.com/metal-calendar​ at normal shop rates ($12/hour for Members, $24/hour for Non Members).

What to Wear

Please wear close-toed shoes, no loose clothing, and hair tied back for safety in the studio.​

What to Bring

If you have personal protective equipment, please bring it with you. Otherwise, protective gear will be provided as needed.

Prerequisites

You must have completed our Intro to TIG Welding class or be pre-approved by our instructor if you have previous TIG welding experience.

Ages 13+ welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Both need to register and pay.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.
