DIYcave February Classes

You asked and we delivered – drum roll please… a February class schedule for you! Until we can open our doors and be fully operational for membership, we have some classes for you to take. We have been hard at work to get the tools you want to use and the space ready to use them! Come check out our space and gain some skills. Stay tuned for sign up instructions.

WORKBENCH WORKSHOP – Saturday, Feb 7th 12:30pm to 3:30pm

Learn how to build a simple, durable workbench using readily available materials and a basic set of woodworking tools. The design of this workbench can easily be adapted to any size bench you require and you’ll go home with a set of dimensioned plans. The bench built during the workshop will be used as one of DIYcave’s new work stations!

Student Requirements: None

WELDING WORKSHOP – Tuesday, Feb. 10th 6:00pm to 8:00pm

While we are still looking for the opportunity to get a certified welding instructor, we want to open up the shop to beginning welders and would be welding enthusiasts. Come in and try your hand at MIG/TIG/Stick or gas welding as well as cutting and shaping metals in a safe, supervised environment.

Student Requirements: Durable Work Clothing

DRYWALL REPAIR – Sunday, Feb. 15th 2:00pm to 4:00pm

A two hour class on how to repair the most common drywall maladies. Popped nails, bashed corner bead, holes, scratches and bad seams. Get hands-on with drywall sheets, drywall compound, and texture. Learn from a 20 year journeyman in the drywall trade. Use the tools that professionals use and learn the best tricks of the trade!

Student Requirements: Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty.

COMPUTER SECURITY – Thursday, Feb.19 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Do you worry about viruses and malware? Is your password really a good password? Maybe it’s too late and you are already infected… what do you do? Let us help. This class is not a “bring your computer with you and we will fix it for you class,” it is a “bring your computer with you and learn how to fix it yourself” class, or just how to improve the security of what is arguably one of the most important devices that you own. Because we are covering security as a whole this class is not PC or Mac specific, although portions of it will be.

Student Requirements: Laptop or tablet, notepad and pen

SKI & SNOWBOARD TUNE UP – Thursday, Feb. 26th 6:00pm-8:00pm

Learn the basics of ski and snowboard maintenance and tuning. We’re teaming up with the experts at Skjersaa’s to help you learn proper edge, base, and waxing techniques to keep you smooth and fast on the mountain.

Student Requirements: Skis or Snowboard

INTRO TO WOODWORKING – Saturday Feb. 28th 12:30pm to 4:30pm

This class will introduce you to basic woodworking concepts and it will provide you with the information you need to start creating with wood. We’ll explore different types of tools and how they’re used, discuss the properties of wood and wood products, learn the how’s and why’s of assembly techniques, and how to finish your project. This class will be taught by Dave Danek, a professional furniture builder and cabinetmaker since 1995 who started his journey with woodworking in a spare bedroom in his apartment, a few hand tools, and some good books.

Student Requirements: Bring a notebook and pencil.

    Looking for TIG Welding class/instruction. Have welding experience in other types of welding but would like to add TIG.
    Will DIY Cave be having TIG welding on the 2016 schedule? (using my wife’s online account to post this!) Thanks.
