Tell us about yourself:
I have been a professional photographer and private educator for over eight years. I still get excited every single time I hold a camera, and I love teaching photography for that very reason – I want to share what I am excited about! It feels great to work with others in that way.
I look forward to collaborating and using photography as a means to share and connect with those around me. I also love making pies from scratch (no matter the season), hiking in beautiful places (which pretty much means simply walking around anywhere in this town), art in general (express yo’self!), writing (from poetry to a novel), and exploring (gettin’ out there and seeing what’s goin’ on).
What do you love about being part of the DIYcave & 9SV community?
It’s fun to have a plethora of creative projects and people in one place. It’s contagious! You can’t help but walk around and start thinking of ideas – simply because of the energy in that environment. When I decided to become a part of the community, I was seeking a way to share creative space with others. I think it’s important to bounce ideas off people and share your struggles or successes so that you can learn more than you would if you were alone.
What are some of the skills you learned at DIYcave?
Well, I have been remodeling my garage studio space to convert it into a fully functional photography studio. In that process, I have already learned a handful of great skills from the team at DIY Cave. I learned how to paint walls, put new flooring in, and my favorite thus far – use a table saw. If you want to learn how to get stuff done – the DIY Cave holds true to the name.
Tell us about how you’ll be using your space:
I’m using my space as a photography studio and I’m over the moon excited about it! I am looking forward to sharing and creating all sorts of projects in there. I will be offering my photography lessons and teaching from my studio. All levels of learners are welcomed – I cover the basic skill-sets from the very beginning stages to the intricacies that come with intermediate into advanced stages. It will be a place where I can create portraits, product, lifestyle, and all sorts of image content through my photography services. I will also be using it to continue to work on my own personal, fine-art photography series.
These two may not apply to you, but if you have answers for them, that would be great:
Favorite project you witnessed (besides yours) while hanging out at DIYcave?
There are a lot of amazing things going on in the DIY Cave, so it’s hard to choose a favorite… but one day I saw Doc making some wooden pens from scratch. They were stunning, and I thought, “What a beautiful, small and simple way to play in such a large wood shop.”
What advice would you give someone who wants to join DIYcave and start a project?
Go for it! You will be supported and encouraged at every corner. The DIY Cave is full of caring, hardworking people. If you don’t know what you are doing, but you want to do it – perfect. You’re in, and you are welcomed.
