Welding Techniques 102 – Build a Chair

Learn how to weld a chair in January at the DIYcave. This course is all about the skills you need to design and make items with steel. During the course, you will create a modern industrial metal chair.

The prerequisite to take this course is our Welding Workshop class. If you have not taken our Welding Workshop, please take that course before the chair class.

The Weld a Chair Course includes three classes plus 5 hours of “lab time” which you will use between classes to practice your skills. Please ensure that you can attend all of the classes!!

Skills learned will be:
Joint Techniques: Explore the different types of joints commonly performed with a welder. Learn how and when to use these techniques and some of the tricks to making your welds turn out great.

Cutting and shaping: Learn how to measure and cut steel for a specific result and proper preparation of your pieces for successful welds.
Angles and layout: Learn how to weld true angles and layout design. Explore the effects of heat and how they affect metals.

Metal Lab: 5 hours of lab time. Students will have 5 hours of Metal shop access to practice techniques or work on projects related to class. Hours shall be available between the start of first class until one week after last class during normal DIYcave hours.
